Limescale is precipitated when there is a change in temperature or pressure.  The calcium carbonates in the water crystallize and attach themselves to the nearest surface, the pipes, the water heater, the washing machine, the electric kettle etc causing untold problems that keep plumbers busy.

There are three main ways to protect your home from limescale.

[1] Eliminate the minerals that cause the lime scale, using a salt based decalcifier.  This replaces the calcium with sodium, which is not in any way good for your health if you drink it.   Also they are expensive to run, as you have to buy sacks of salt almost every month.

[2] Prevent the formation of scale by magnets and electro-magnets.  These work to a certain extent. But metal particles become attached to the pipe near the magnet, which explains why they may stop working properly after as little as six months.

[3] Prevent the formation of scale electronically with a product like Hydroflow (ITASH).  Hydroflow generates random signals measured in kilohertz (kHz) that do not rely on a magnetic field.  The signals go in all directions all the time, even when the water is switched off, protecting your home 24/7.  The result is softer water that is kinder to your skin and your hair.

Hydroflow is very compact. It is best fitted at the point of entry in a house.  This won’t be practical in most flats, where Hydroflow is normally fitted on the flexible pipe leading to the water heater or on the rubber tube leading to the washing machine or dish washer.

Hard water needs a powerful Hydroflow and the model recommended is the S38 (badged in Spain as ITASH ultra clean).  This is the same Hydroflow used to prevent scale in steam baths or steam ovens and never fails.  Hydroflow also acts against corrosion, bacteria and fixed chlorine

The Aguaeco Anti-Bacteria is a Reality

Aguaeco anti-bacteria is two fold.  [1] As the water passes through the unit, Aguaeco’s strong osciliatory vibrations cause the membranes of bacteria to explode.  [2] Aguaeco eliminates bio-film.  Bacteria also attaches itself to the walls of pipes in the form of bio-film.  Aguaeco dissolves the limescale in the pipework, and the bio-film falls off the pipes with the limescale.

Here are two photos of the same cascade, that confirm the Aguaeco anti-bacteria effect.  The first is the cascade as it without an Itash.  The second is after 4 months with Itash (S38) fitted on the circulation pipe before the pump.

Aguaeco did a good job cleaning the circulation pump of limescale and reducing the algae in the pond.  The cascade is normally green, but with water treated by Hydroflow, the green became grey as the algae died away.


In this wild life pond, there is no other water treatment that could have caused the algae to die, which makes this incontrovertible evidence that Aguaeco has an anti-bacteria / anti-algae effect.


Aguaeco also has the effect energising the pond life.  Hydroflow is known to increase breeding in a fish pond.  In our case, it had a dramatic effect on the frog population.  In response to the complaints of neighbours, we unistalled the Itash (S38).




The dangers of chlorine / bromine and how Aguaeco can reduce them


We have long accepted Chlorine / bromine as necessary evils to keep the water safe from bacteria like e-coli and diseases like polio.

However there is a problem.  Chlorine and bromine have the same structure as iodine, which is important in the production of hormones by the thyroid gland.  When chlorine gets into your body, the thyroids absorb it, taking it as iodine, and displace the iodine that you need for good health.  click Amy Mayers MD on thyroids or click Amy Mayers PDF for more information.  You can buy her products, but much better attack the source of the problem with Hydroflow.

Chlorine gets in to your body when you drink it and through your skin when you bathe or shower in chlorinated water.  Skin is a membrane, it absorbs as well as releases/sweats.

Over exposure to swimming pool chlorine or jacuzzi bromine has been linked to a number of conditions.

Hydroflow uses radio waves within an electric field to condition hard water.  The waves are long wave, absolutely nothing to do with magnets or electro magnets.

Hydroflow uses random signals to charge the ions in the water. The charge is positive or negative which draw the ions together to form clusters, which are held in suspension.  These clusters then attract the larger calcium carbonate molecules.  When there is a change of temperature or pressure / turbulence, the salts precipitate and crystals are formed.  The salt crystals form around the Hydroflow clusters, which act as nuclei.  They do not attach themselves to the surfaces, which explains why Hydroflow prevents incrustations of limescale.

The Hydroflow clusters also attract particles in the water and provoke a physical flocculation.

By grouping the particles together, including particles of chlorine/bromine, Hydroflow creates big round flocs that will not penetrate the sand in a swimming pool filter, improving filtration.  When Hydroflow is used to pre-treat hard water before a Reverse Osmosis system, the physical flocculation prevents the chemicals from penetrating the RO membranes.  With Hydroflow you never need to chemically clean as RO system, provided it is periodically washed with osmotized water.  In homes with very hard water, there are so many clusters that turbulence is not need to provoke flocculation.


The skin is a membrane.  Without Hydroflow, it will absorb chlorine  used to disinfect pool water.  This explains why you still smell of chlorine after you have showered after your swim.

Hydroflow flocculates physically to form clusters of particles which do not penetrate a membrane.  In the same way,  In a Hydroflow pool, the chlorine/bromine clusters do not penetrate the skin, making a pool or jacuzzi much more healthy.

After a swim in a Hydroflow pool, you do not smell of chlorine, your skin is not dry and itchy and you do not get ‘red eye’.  Hydroflow makes a chlorinated pool much safer.

Hydroflow complements other treatments like salt based chlorinators or Ultra-violet.  Hydroflow is a must have for the pool.

Many public jacuzzis use water already decalcified.  A decalcifier based on salt will take out some of the chlorine and it necesary to add more chlorine to meet the legal requirement for 0.8 to 2 parts per million (ppm).  Decalcified water will stop limescale, it  will also  corrode any metal in the circuit. Most importantly, Hydroflow needs conductivity and will not function with decalcified water.

If the jacuzzi uses mains water or sea water, , then Hydroflow can be used to complement the chlorine / bromine with the same benefits.

There is chlorine in drinking water, which will affect your thyroids.  Hydroflow conditions the water, it does not filter it.  So to avoid chlorine in your drinking  water, you need a filter,  a carbon filter or by a domestic reverse osmosis system.  Neither are normally 100% effective.  Carbon only completely absorbs chlorine if water is in the filter for 4 minutes, which rarely happens.  Reverse Osmosis normally does not eliminate all the chlorine, unless the water is pre-treated.

This is where HydroFlow really helps.  Hydroflow flocculates physically, as above.  Carbon filters work better, trapping the chlorine clusters, so that carbon filtered water pre-treated by Hydroflow has  less chlorine content.  However given the cost of water and the cartridges for the filter, it is easier and more economical to buy bottled mineral water, preferably without ‘cloruros’ (chloride) in the composition.

Reverse Osmosis also works better.  Chlorine clusters are caught in the membranes, and there is virtually no chlorine in osmotized water, pre-treated by Hydroflow.


Chlorine combines with hard water to irritate the skin.  The chlorine will also be absorbed by the skin.  HydroFlow prevents hard limescale, we know.  Hydroflow also provokes a physical flocculation that groups the particles in clusters, including the chlorine. The flocs/ clusters make it difficult for the chlorine to penetrate the skin, which is what causes problems with itchy skin, dry and thinning hair etc.

Living with Hard Water – a talk

In May, Peter gave a talk in English to the International Association of Pedralba on Living with Hard Water

It also touched on the effects of chlorine in the water, including some research that revealed side effects in pools and drinking water.  The talk was not a sales pitch, though it must be said that HydroFlow got mentioned more than once.

Installation tips

This post is in English for general use.

Installation tips.

  • For best signal
    • Install on a stretch of straight pipe
    • Install a metre or more before the next bend.
    • Install after the filter (if there is one).
    • Install after the pump (if there is one)

  • For best flocculation
    • Soon after the pump with a metre or more before the next bend.  The longer the stretch of straight pipe the better.  The HydroFlow below was installed by the client.  It has since been repositioned to be much further away from the elbow in the pipe.

      HydroFlow & Reverse Osmosis
  • Hot water pipes
    • Install a model bigger than the pipe requires.
    • The  ‘P’ range seems to be better with hot water
    • Insert a wood insulation between the transducer and the pipe.
    • Hang the unit upside down.
    • Recommend that the insulation on metal pipes be enhanced with aluminium foil.
    • Keep temperature of unit under 50 degrees.  Use a fan if necessary
    • Consider also  installing on the cold water pipe

  • Heat Exchangers
    • Install a filter between the hot water accumulator and the heat exchanger to trap the limescale released by HydroFlow.  this is important for plate heat exchangers.
    • HydroFlow needs a stretch of straight pipe to establish the signals. The installation in the photo above was a partial success.  For complete success in preventing incrustations of limescale, the piping needs to be adjusted to give ideally a metre of straight pipe between the HydroFlow and the heat exchanger.
  • Old pipes
    • To minimise the possibility of leaks, install a timer so that HydroFlow is not working all the time. This will mean there will always be some limescale on the pipes to seal potential leaks.
    • To minimize white in the water of a swimming pool, a timer can be used for the first month, to control the dissolution of limescale in the pipes.
    • Filters will be required to catch the flakes of limescale released by HydroFlow before the sensitive points – ie the water heater, the pump in the hot water system, the heat exchanger.
  • Safety
    • Make safe the transducer with plastic ties, before securing the unit with the metal ties.
    • Add the ferrites when the transducer is secure.
    • Use Loctite 243 to secure the plastic nuts and bolts of the ferrites, or
    • Use washers, to prevent the ferrites from coming loose as a result of vibrations.
    • You need two pairs of hands to install on a vertical pipe.
